Uncertainty continues to surround Ferran Torres’ future at Barcelona.
The Spanish international has recently returned from his media tour in the United States, where he has become one of the country’s most talked-about footballers after scoring the winning goal in Spain’s World Cup final victory over Argentina.
Throughout his appearances, Ferran has continued to leave the door open regarding his future, insisting that he still does not know where he will be playing next season.
Barça waiting for two possible scenarios
Back in Barcelona, there is a sense of cautious anticipation, reports AS.
The Blaugrana are waiting for one of two things to happen: either Ferran returns next week and sits down with Deco and Hansi Flick to discuss his future, or PSG finally make contact with an official offer for the Valencia-born forward.
For now, neither has happened. Despite persistent reports linking PSG with the player, no formal approach has yet been made, and no one from the French club has contacted Barcelona.
PSG may not be the only club interested
Although the strongest rumours continue to come from Paris, the French champions may not be the only side monitoring Ferran’s situation.
Atletico Madrid could also enter the picture, particularly depending on how any potential negotiations involving Julian Alvarez develop over the coming weeks.
At this stage, however, no concrete talks have begun.
Barcelona’s position has not changed
Within the club, the message remains exactly the same. Barcelona insist that their strategy regarding Ferran has not changed and is the one they established months ago.
The club’s intention is still to offer him a new contract, not to sell him. There are, however, two important conditions attached to that plan.
The first is timing. Barcelona intend to present the 26-year-old forward with a renewal offer once the transfer window has closed, allowing the club to have a clearer picture of its financial situation and salary cap.
According to the club, that has always been the plan and has nothing to do with the reported €8 million bonus that would become payable to Manchester City if Ferran signs a contract extension.
The second point concerns the financial terms of any new deal. Barcelona do not intend to offer Ferran a significant pay rise. The sporting department believes the forward is already appropriately placed within the club’s wage structure.
While an improved contract is expected to be proposed, the player should not expect a substantial jump in salary.
For now, all scenarios remain open with Ferran.
