Barcelona left-back Jofre Torrents set to join Ajax on loan

Just a few days after acquiring Marc-André ter Stegen on a season-long loan, Ajax are ready to bring in another Barcelona player as 19-year-old left-back Jofre Torrents is set to join the Dutch giants on loan for the 2026-27 season.

According to reports from Catalan media, Barça and Ajax have already reached an agreement and only final details need to be sorted before Jofre can travel to Amsterdam and make his signing official.

Barça have real hopes for Jofre and believe spending the next year at Ajax will be crucial for his development. The imminent signing of João Cancelo and the presence of Alejandro Balde will make it hard for Torrents to get minutes in the first team, but they also believe he’s too good to play in the fourth tier with Barça Atlètic.

The Catalans have carefully picked Ajax as Jofre’s destination given new manager Míchel’s commitment to a possession-based attacking style, and believe a year in Amsterdam will be huge for the development of a player Barça believe can have a real future at the club.

Jofre began last season as the starting left-back for Hansi Flick’s side while Alejandro Balde recovered from a preseason knock, but a serious mid-season ankle injury hurt his chances of making a real breakthrough.

But he’s fully fit now, and Barça hope Jofre can earn the starting job at Ajax and play big minutes this season so he returns to Catalonia a better player next year.
