Jos Buttler entered the history books on Wednesday (August 5) by becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket. The former England white-ball captain needed 22 runs in the men’s Hundred match between Manchester Super Giants and Welsh Fire to surpass Kieron Pollard’s tally of 14,803 runs, and he went on to score an unbeaten 51 off just 20 balls.
Buttler surpassed Pollard’s tally for the most runs in T20 cricket on the 62nd ball of the 156-run chase at Old Trafford in Manchester.
The men’s Hundred match against Welsh Fire was Buttler’s 522nd T20 appearance, and he now has 14,833 runs to his name in 492 innings.
Pollard now occupies second place with 14,803 runs in 663 innings across 746 T20 matches. The former West Indies captain broke Chris Gayle’s long-standing record for the most runs in T20 cricket earlier this year but has now slipped to second place.
Gayle, who finished his career with 14,562 runs in 463 T20 matches, is third on the list, followed by Alex Hales (14,449) and David Warner (14,284).

Buttler, who led England to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2022, has scored 4,212 runs in 160 T20Is and 1,192 runs in 31 Men’s Hundred matches. He has also represented three teams — Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans — in the IPL and has scored 4,646 runs with the help of seven centuries and 28 fifties.

Buttler’s unbeaten half-century against Welsh Fire helped Manchester Super Giants chase down the target of 156 runs in just 69 balls for the loss of only one wicket.
Buttler has scored four fifties in six matches for MSG in the ongoing season. With 277 runs to his name, he is the second-highest run-scorer in this year’s tournament.

The fourth fifty of the ongoing season also helped Buttler equal the record for the most 50-plus scores in a single edition of The Hundred.
