Apple has issued emergency updates for macOS Sonoma, Sequoia, and Tahoe to fix a security flaw that allows attackers to use screen sharing on your computer without proper authentication.
As 9to5Mac reports, the updates were pushed out on Thursday. Depending on the macOS version you run, install macOS Sonoma 14.8.9, macOS Sequoia 15.7.9, or macOS Tahoe 26.6.1 to fix the issue. To check for updates, head to Settings > General > Software Update.
Apple released macOS 26.6 just last week, so a quick follow-up suggests the issue was serious. In its release notes, Apple says that “an attacker on the network may be able to authenticate to Screen Sharing without valid credentials.” In other words, 9to5Mac says, the flaw could have let attackers start a screen-sharing session, view your screen, and launch apps, files, and folders. It has been “addressed with improved state management,” Apple says.
The release notes also credit Bynario Atlas for the discovery. We first heard of that name earlier this week while reporting Apple’s new cap on the number of bugs researchers can submit to its bounty program. Bynario had reported eight bugs last year and five earlier this year before being blocked from making further submissions. Apple later allowed the group to submit more entries.
The updates arrive just days after Apple reported the “best June quarter yet” for Macs. Its computers alone raked in $10.4 billion in revenue last quarter, a 29% year-over-year growth.

The latest version of macOS, meanwhile, macOS Golden Gate 27, is in public beta. An official release is expected next month, around Apple’s annual fall event.
