Prof. Murthy S. Gudipati, Alumnus & NASA Senior Scientist Wins Prestigious CRSI Medal for Astrochemistry |

Prof. Murthy S. Gudipati, an alumnus of School of Chemistry has been awarded the CRSI Medal (NRI) for the year 2026 in recognition of his research contributions to Astrochemistry. This medal is conferred on Chemists of Indian Origin working outside India and who have contributed extensively to the promotion of Chemical Research, currently holding the position of a Senior Research Scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA.

Prof. Gudipati obtained an MSc (Chemistry) degree from the University of Hyderabad with Gold Medal in 1981. Subsequently, he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, for which he received the best thesis award (Guha Medal) in 1987.

Dr. Gudipati was a Professor Satish Dhawan IoE Visiting Chair Professor at IISc, Bengaluru in 2025. He has over 100 publications in high impact journals including NatureScienceNature AstronomyNature Communications, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA and the Astrophysical Journal. He has been the recipient of several awards and memberships, including the 2014 Mariner Bonus Award and the 2002 NASA Group Achievement Award and the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)
