This new series hybrid powertrain is expected to debut with the Fronx and will later be offered with other models like the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno. Now the Swift is already a value product for those who want a fuel-efficient car – and with this new tech, the mileage is expected to increase even more.

New Maruti Swift Hybrid: Better Mileage?
In 2024, Maruti launched the new Swift, with a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder NA petrol engine. This new hybrid tech will be built on the same 3-cylinder unit – and it is said to deliver better mileage than currently offered.
Industry rumours suggest that the models with a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine will get a small floor-mounted battery pack. This system is expected to return a claimed mileage of 35kmpl mated to a manual or AMT gearbox option. Maruti might consider offering it with an e-CVT gearbox, but that would hike the final cost, so it might not be under final consideration.
The new series hybrid tech is expected to debut with the Fronx and later will be extended to the Swift. So, expect the Swift with this hybrid tech to launch somewhere around late 2027 or early 2028.

What Else?
The Swift got its last update back in 2024. So, with the hybrid powertrain, Maruti could also offer a new-gen update to the model. With the update, we can expect the Swift to get redesigned bumpers, revised headlamps and taillamps – much like the Dzire, a new grille and new alloys. Some new features could also make way on this model – it’s too quick to expect anything at present, but it could get some. Two key additions will be the inclusion of a 360-degree camera and a single-pane sunroof. Both these features are currently present on the Dzire.

Expected Price
While there’s nothing confirmed from the brand at present, we expect the Fronx with this tech to be shown at the Indian Auto Expo that will take place in the following year. Just as the Fronx is launched, Maruti will open the doors for the Swift. So, expect the model to launch by late 2027. Speaking of the pricing, expect the Swift hybrid to be priced between Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
