Kangana says women marry ‘Islamists’, turn leftist; internet links it to Sonakshi

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has once again sparked speculation that she is taking aim at actor Sonakshi Sinha, this time through a video in which she spoke about Hindu women, relationships, and her own evolving political and religious beliefs. In the video, Ranaut criticised what she described as some “Hindu betiyan” in the industry who, according to her, remain apolitical until they marry or become friends with “Islamist” men.

The 40-year-old said people often resurface old videos of her dancing and partying whenever she raises concerns about the country’s youth. Ranaut added that while she once considered herself a “moderate Hindu”, she now aspires to be an “awakened Hindu”, questioning why she should be criticised for changing her beliefs. The video came just hours after she shared an Instagram Stories post targeting a Hindu woman in the industry who wears “half pants and ulta cap” and dresses like a “jebkatra (pickpocket).”

Sonakshi Sinha, who is married to actor Zaheer Iqbal, has been vocal in her support for the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest held last month at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The demonstration, organised over the NEET paper leak controversy, culminated in the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

In the video, Ranaut, the BJP MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, repeated her claim that some Hindu women become more politically aligned after entering relationships with “Islamist” men, saying they often turn into “kattar panthis” or “leftists.”

“There are many Hindu girls whom we have known and been in close contact with in the industry. We have observed and understood them closely. But what we often see is that although they are Hindu, they don’t really have a defined ideology when it comes to politics or religion. This is usually the case with young people; they tend to be very neutral,” she said.

She continued, “But as soon as they enter a relationship, whether it is marriage or friendship, with Islamists, their thinking becomes defined. They become more hardline or leftist, which I believe is not a problem because the Constitution gives you that freedom. You are free to adopt whichever religion or ideology you choose.”

Jab Hindu betiyon ki baat aati hai, main apne aap ko defend nahi karungi ki maine item songs ke khilaaf, pay parity ke khilaaf ya kabhi badi-badi filmon mein kaam nahi kiya hai. Heroes ke khilaaf bahishkar kiya, nepotism ke khilaaf ladai, mujhe aisa kaise keh sakte hain? Haan, main ek moderate Hindu thi. Aaj agar maine khud ko defend kar liya toh na jaane kitni betiyaan jo ye leap nahi le paayengi. Mujhe taane kaste hain, ‘Tum kab se Sanghi ban gayi?’ Mujhe Sanghi banna hai. Mujhe BJP, RSS ki ideology, ‘awakened Hindu’, mujhe woh banna hai. Mujhe convert hona hai,” she added.

Towards the end, she spoke about her old viral video from the 2018 Cannes after-party that recently went viral. The Queen actor clarified that she used to do everything before, but now she wants to embrace a more defined and awakened Hindu identity.

Before the video, Ranaut shared a cryptic Instagram post in which she took a dig at Sinha. “I have noticed an actress who dresses and speaks like a pocket maar these days,” she wrote, without naming anyone. While the actor-politician did not identify the actor, the internet has been quick to speculate that she was referring to the Dahaad actor.

She earlier clarified that a viral post claiming she ‘liked’ the content on it, was false. The post mocked a “moti (fat) woman” for not speaking up about the Jharkhand paper leak row despite being vocal about the NEET paper leak protests last month. Reacting to the same, Ranaut said while the post showcasing her ‘like’ on it was fake, she was still trying to figure out why a certain woman from the industry, started dressing up like a “jebkatra.”

She appeared to target Sonakshi in her note, criticising her recent style of wearing shorts and caps and accusing her of speaking and behaving like a “jebkatra” (pickpocket) while supporting what she described as “gutterchap” behaviour by protesters.

“There are many fake news that are doing rounds, this like of mine is also fake I never body shame anyone but I have noticed an actress who dresses and speaks like a pocket maar these days she wears half pants and ulta cap and talks like a jebkatra while passionately promoting gutterchap behaviour of protestors. I always feel how you dress in a relationship is a direct reflection of how you feel, dear fellow actress if your man is making you feel like a jebkatra I am sorry. You used to dress and speak so elegantly what happened to you? Opinions are yours but you can do better with that styling of yours if you need some help, I am always there for you (sic),” she wrote.

Many X users were quick to point out that Kangana’s dig was at Sonakshi Sinha. One of the users wrote, “Kangana Ranaut slammed Sonakshi Sinha on her Instagram story. She called Sonakshi Sinha ‘gutter-class’ and a pickpocket indirectly. This girl is so savage. Nowadays she is cooking liberals (sic),” while another user shared Kangana’s post along with Sonakshi’s picture and wrote, “Kangana Ranaut cooking Sonakshi Sinha. An actress who dresses and speaks like a pocket maar these days she wears half pants and ulta cap and talks like a jebkatra while passionately promoting gutterchap behaviour of protestors (sic).”

A third user chimed in and wrote, “Kangana Ranaut slammed Sonakshi Sinha by liking a cryptic post. A cryptic post on Instagram was showing disappointment over Sonakshi Sinha’s double standard. Post mentioned that she was making videos on CJP protest but now she’s enjoying vacation while ignoring the issues of Jharkhand students. She is not speaking just because there is no BJP government?? Queen liked this post as she is well aware about her double standard. She is some kind of courageous lady which our country needs. No matter who is against you kangana, I will always support you (sic).”

The Rowdy Rathore actor has been vocal in her support for Sonam Wangchuk and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest with her posts on social media. On July 21, she shared a series of photographs from the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march and reflected on the violence that took place during the demonstration.

Sonakshi’s post came a day after clashes broke out during the march in central Delhi. As protesters attempted to march towards Parliament on the opening day of the Monsoon Session, police used tear gas, lathi charge and anti-riot vehicles to disperse crowds at several locations, including Jantar Mantar, Shastri Bhawan, Rail Bhawan and Connaught Place.

Kangana had earlier described Gen-Z protesters as “Generation Gutter,” a remark that quickly snowballed into controversy. Since then, the actor has been using social media to single out young men and women who allegedly abused the government and raised anti-Modi slogans during the protest, portraying them as uncouth and uncivilised individuals who, in her view, deserve to be reprimanded by both society and the judiciary.
