Hyderabad: An 8-month-old baby girl from Kenya has recovered after undergoing complex heart surgery at Medicover Hospitals, Financial District.

Baby Maiza was born with multiple heart defects that prevented blood from flowing normally to her lungs. From birth, she had low oxygen levels, struggled to feed, gained very little weight, and frequently experienced breathlessness, warning signs that, if left untreated, could become life-threatening.

Pediatric Cardiac Surgery team led by Dr Amol Gupta, along with Dr Priyanka Patil, performed a Bidirectional Glenn procedure rerouting blood flow directly to the lungs, reducing the workload on the heart and improving oxygen supply to the body.

The baby was able to breathe on her own soon after surgery and is now being discharged in stable condition, Dr Amol Gupta said.
