Ferran Torres dominated the headlines with comments about his Barcelona future amid heavy rumors of a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but they won’t change the club’s plans for the player.
Barça remain very skeptical of PSG’s actual interest and will not entertain selling Ferran until an actual offer arrives, and some executives are convinced Ferran is using the PSG links and his sudden increased popularity after scoring Spain’s World Cup winning goal as nothing more than leverage to get a better contract.
But the Catalans remain unmoved in their stance: Torres already knows Barça want to sit down and discuss a new deal in September after the transfer window closes, but Ferran’s challenge will not change their mind when it comes to a salary increase.
Barça believe Ferran is already paid very well for his role as a backup striker, the same role he also plays for the Spanish national team. The club want to keep him on a long-term deal, and are prepared to call Ferran’s bluff when it comes to the PSG links.
Ferran is scheduled to return to training next Wednesday while PSG are expected to begin negotiations in the next few days.
