Korean audio specialist Astell&Kern has announced the launch of a new digital audio player. The PD5 is the successor to the brand’s multi-award-winning A&norma SR35 and will be on show at this weekend’s Hong Kong AV show.
Designed to fit comfortably in one hand, the PD5 combines a switchable Quad/Octa-DAC architecture, up to 28 hours of continuous playback and EnviroTune, an intelligent feature that analyses ambient noise to deliver optimal sound for the listener’s surroundings. The new player is encased in an elegant aluminum body.
At the heart of the PD5 are no fewer than eight Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs. Listeners can choose between Quad-DAC and Octa-DAC operations. Quad-DAC mode prioritizes battery life for extended listening, while Octa-DAC mode unlocks the player’s full sonic potential, which A&K says can deliver class-defining performance for a DAP of this size.

Quad DAC Mode
In Quad-DAC mode, the PD5 can play for up to 28 hours on a single charge of its battery. The player supports PD 3.0 charging, which cuts the charge time to around 2.5 hours.
EnviroTune is a feature that analyses ambient noise and then automatically optimizes the playback to suit the current environment, enabling listeners to achieve the best possible sound experience whether they are commuting, working somewhere noisy or listening in a quieter space.
The PD5 supports bit-perfect playback up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and native DSD256. Its octa-core processor and full Android OS platform are optimized for music streaming services, while dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and broad codec support, including Qualcomm aptX HD, LDAC and LHDC, with several options for listening to high-resolution audio wirelessly.
Following its Hong Kong debut, the PD5 will be on show at Shenzhen International Audio Show from the August 14 to 16, 2026, and at CanJam SoCal 2026, which runs from August 29 to 30, in the United States.
