Xiaomi is refreshing its affordable smartphone portfolio with the launch of the Redmi 17, Redmi 17 5G, and Redmi Note 17. Following the Indian debut of the Note 17, Xiaomi announced the standard Redmi 17 models for global markets. The central focus of this new generation is clear: delivering massive battery endurance and larger displays without driving prices into mid-range territory.
Redmi Note 17: An 8,000mAh battery titan with a 7-inch AMOLED screen
The Redmi Note 17 lands in India with a huge 8,000mAh battery to stand out. This represents a massive 45% capacity jump over last year’s Redmi Note 15. To keep down costs, Xiaomi made a few strategic trade-offs. The list includes swapping out last generation’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 for Qualcomm’s entry-level Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 processor.
Up front, the device features a flat 7.0-inch 120Hz AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. Memory configurations come in 6GB or 8GB of RAM, paired strictly with 128GB of internal storage. A hybrid SIM slot allows microSD expansion up to 2TB, though.
Camera hardware takes a minimalist approach with a single 50MP rear camera. The device is dropping 4K video recording and the ultrawide sensor from the previous model. For selfies and video calls, you’ll find an 8MP front camera. The phone retains a single loudspeaker, supports 45W wired charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging, and ships with Android 16. Xiaomi promises four years of OS updates and six years of security patches.

For broader global markets, the standard Redmi 17 and Redmi 17 5G bring a fresh design featuring flat edges, a matte frame, metal camera accents, and a back-mounted Dynamic RGB Light for notifications and gaming effects. Both models sport a large 6.9-inch HD+ (1600 x 720) 120Hz AdaptiveSync LCD screen with Gorilla Glass 7i protection, IP64 dust/water resistance, and Wet Touch Technology.
Under the hood, the standard 4G Redmi 17 uses a MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra chip. On the other hand, the Redmi 17 5G runs on Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform. Both phones run Xiaomi HyperOS 3 on top of Android 16 and pack a giant 7,500mAh battery. The cell supports 45W fast charging (full charge in 96 minutes) and 22.5W reverse wired charging.
Camera setups feature a 50MP main rear camera paired with a secondary sensor for dual-view recording, plus an 8MP front camera. Unlike the Note model, these standard versions include dual stereo speakers with a 300% volume boost feature. You’ll also find a side fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
