Sunday’s closing night for WWE SummerSlam 2026 was rife with title changes.
Chelsea Green shockingly scored the win in a 5-way ladder match to become the brand new interim Women’s Champion. She beat out partner Tiffany Stratton, Lash Legend, Jade Cargill and Charlotte Flair to hoist gold high above her head. Green will now presumably meet Rhea Ripley when ‘Mami’ returns from injury, which is a legitimately fresh-feeling match up.
Elsewhere, comeback man Baron Corbin defeated Trick Williams to bag the United States belt. Some industry pundits had opined that booking Baron to lose when he’d only just returned would’ve been foolish, and a few other fans suggested that dropping the US Title wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for Trick.
Williams was shown confronting WWE Champ CM Punk on Friday’s ‘go home’ edition of SmackDown, so it looks like Triple H and the creative team have grand plans for Trick Willy long term. He’s largely shed Lil Yachty as his manager, at least over the past while on TV, and is expected to become one of the top stars on the blue brand shortly.
Perhaps the biggest emotional triumph came for one Chad Gable. He beat Penta to claim his first singles title in WWE by way of the roundly-adored Intercontinental strap. This victory will mean the world to Gable. Indeed, pre-SummerSlam vlogs documented his long, arduous journey towards this goal.
Rewarding Chad for his excellent work since ditching the El Grande Americano gimmick and getting serious again always sounded like the best plan open to the company.
