Through the 12 August 2026 photo voltaic eclipse, an Irish Air Corps C295 flew west over the Atlantic to seize totality.
Constructed utilizing parts produced for the Proba-3 ASPIICS instrument, the Eclipse Coronal Magnetograph, or E-CorMag, was designed to measure the magnetic discipline of the photo voltaic corona.
Excessive above the clouds over the Atlantic Ocean, 540 km west of Eire, E-CorMag was aimed on the whole eclipse, and picked up knowledge from the coronal magnetic discipline by way of its polarisation, the course through which the sunshine waves vibrate.
By evaluating this knowledge with measurements from ESA’s Proba-3 and Photo voltaic Orbiter missions, we are able to construct a extra full view of the photo voltaic corona, and its relationship with the Solar’s magnetic discipline.
