Before the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland’s first three web-crawling feature films had amassed a massive $3.9 billion in box office earnings. The fourth installment in the franchise is on track to obliterate what each of its previous three predecessors did, and that’s before arriving in all possible premium formats.
As of now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already surpassed Christopher Nolan’s record-setting epic The Odyssey, and in only its opening weekend, no less. Having soared to $927 million in global earnings, and on track to become Holland’s first multi-billion dollar feature film, expect that feat to be helped by the highly-anticipated and unexpected release of the IMAX version.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Finally Debuts in IMAX
That’s right folks, originally there were no plans for the film to show in IMAX — thanks to The Odyssey (another blockbuster starring Holland) dominating those screens — those plans have changed.
It has now been announced that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will swing into IMAX theaters on Aug. 7, a major coup for Marvel Studios and fans who can now experience Holland swinging between New York City skyscrapers as Peter Parker on the largest theater screens available.
Initially, it was expected that The Odyssey would have a month-long commitment from/with IMAX but, three weeks later, just as there’s no denying the success of Nolan’s epic, there’s no stopping the runaway train that is Spider-Man Brand New Day; and tickets go on sale beginning Aug. 4 for IMAX tickets.
What Holland is achieving in 2026 is both remarkable and historic (read: legendary).
Tom Holland Doing the Unthinkable With Spider-Man, The Odyssey
While The Odyssey is far from slowing down at any point in the near future, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to surpass it and potentially every single film this year in earnings, save for the outcome of Avengers: Doomsday in December.
It’s no wonder Holland warned everyone ahead of time that his latest Spider-Man movie was the one that meant the most to him.
“I have to say I’m so proud of the movie,” Holland explained. “I sound biased, but I think it’s my favorite one. … “Jon Bernthal is amazing, Zendaya is amazing, and Jacob Batalon is amazing. Everyone in the movie is absolutely fantastic. So I’m super proud of it. I can’t wait to share it with you.”
No one that has seen Spider-Man: Brand New Day could easily argue against Holland being correct, and the proof of that lies in the fact it’s earned a near-perfect and Verified Hot audience rating of 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics not far behind at a Certified Fresh 90 percent.
And now, following the biggest box office opening of all-time, IMAX wants in, and Spider-Man fans can enjoy the film all over again; and in a way that makes it feel like the very first time.
