PRAYAGRAJ: At least six members of a family, including two infants, were killed after the roof of their dilapidated house collapsed amid heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district early on Thursday. The lone survivor, a 28-year-old man, sustained serious injuries.The incident occurred around 2 am in Mahuli ward under the Kotwali police station limits, when all seven family members were asleep inside the nearly 100-year-old house.Deputy SP (City) Ashutosh Mishra said the ageing structure suddenly gave way, burying the family under the debris. Alerted by neighbours, police, fire department personnel and other rescue teams rushed to the spot, pulled the victims from the rubble and shifted the injured survivor to hospital.The deceased were identified as Pramod Srivastava (60), his wife Rita (55), their son Nitin (25), daughter-in-law Madhuri (23), and two children — one-year-old Madhav and 10-month-old Babu alias Adivik. Police said Aman (28), another son of Pramod Srivastava and Madhav’s father, was the sole survivor.Neighbour Poonam Srivastava said the entire family was asleep when the roof suddenly caved in. Debris from the upper floor crashed onto the lower floor, trapping everyone inside.Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the accident in Pratapgarh and directed senior officials to reach the spot and expedite relief and rescue operations. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families, instructed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured, directed them to extend all possible assistance to the families of the deceased, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
