Minecraft Preview 26.50.24 adds more than concrete stairs

Minecraft Preview 26.50.24 may look like a small content drop at first glance. There are new concrete pieces, better Explorer Maps, and a handful of welcome fixes. Dig a little deeper, though, and this update starts to look far more important for Bedrock creators, server admins, and add-on developers.

Alongside the player-facing changes, Mojang is reworking structure files, tightening entity rules, and expanding server and scripting tools. It is the kind of update where the flashy stuff sits up front, while the bigger changes happen under the hood.

Abandoned camps now lead somewhere

Abandoned Camp chests can now contain Explorer Maps pointing to Ancient Cities, Mineshafts, Desert Pyramids, Warm Ocean Ruins, and other camp variants.

That gives camps a stronger role in the exploration loop. Instead of being a quick loot stop, they can now send players on a longer adventure across the Overworld.

Explorer Maps also have clearer item icons, and the player marker now shows rotation even after moving beyond the map boundary. It is a small quality-of-life upgrade, but anyone who has wandered off-map and lost their bearings will appreciate it.

Builders get Concrete Stairs and Concrete Slabs in all 16 colors. This finally gives concrete-heavy builds more flexibility for roofs, steps, seating, and layered designs without forcing players to swap materials and break the look.

The bug fixes tackle some rough edges

Several fixes deal with problems that could seriously mess with a world or play session.

Mojang has fixed an issue that could load players or mobs at coordinates 0,0,0 after a reload and cause players to lose their items. The preview also addresses rising central processing unit usage after leaving the game idle on pause or controller-disconnected screens.

Other fixes cover Android crashes, inconsistent movement speed, spiders slowing down in webs, texture loading during network changes, false out-of-space warnings, and item jitter while temporal anti-aliasing upscaling is enabled.

Sulfur Spikes and Pointed Dripstone are also back to their intended growth rate after a recent change made them grow 25 times faster.

Structure files get a major efficiency upgrade

The biggest creator-facing change is version 2 of the ".mcstructure" format.

Block index data now uses Named Binary Tag integer arrays instead of lists filled with separate integer tags. Mojang says this cuts memory use and improves save and load times. The second block index array is now optional. When a structure has no extra block layer, leaving that data out can make the file about 50% smaller.

Older version 1 structures still work and will be upgraded the next time they are saved. That should make the switch less painful for creators working with existing worlds and packs.

New rules will need extra testing

Entity and behavior files using format version 1.26.50 or later now face stricter validation. Invalid data in follow-mob behavior or instant-despawn components can stop an entity definition from loading.

Newer entity files also need a dedicated component to decide whether a mob can stand on Powder Snow. Older content gets compatibility handling, but add-on makers should still test across both old and new worlds.

Dedicated servers now use NetherNet as the default transport and gain a “serveridentity” command for managing identity keys. Scripting support also expands with better access to sounds, diagnostics, world clocks, points of interest, and block-filling behavior.

Minecraft Preview 26.50.24 is not a huge content blowout, but it does important groundwork. Players get better tools for building and exploration, while creators and server operators get a cleaner and more predictable Bedrock platform to work with.
