Man City reject Barcelona’s opening bid for Rodri, set €70 million asking price

Manchester City have rejected Barcelona’s opening bid of €46 million for World Cup winning captain Rodri and have set a €70 million asking price as negotiations continue for the midfielder.

According to multiple reports, City are willing to accept Barça’s offer to invest the money in other players instead of letting Rodri walk away for free next summer, but the Catalans are yet to meet their valuation.

Fabrizio Romano’s latest update says the two clubs are in direct contact instead of just trading formal proposals back and forth, which should help speed up negotiations.

Barça want to close the deal as soon as possible and are preparing a new bid to try and get a deal done, and they know Rodri is fully focused on joining the Catalans when his post-World Cup vacation ends next week.

This is standard negotiation stuff: City have set their highest price point but the deal will likely be agreed at a slightly lower amount providing Barça are willing to improve their offer, which they want to do.

The wait for an agreement goes on…
