Kia is preparing to expand its premium SUV portfolio in India with the Sorento. The company has now taken a major step towards its market introduction, with the Sorento teaser page going live and an official “Pre Book Now” option appearing online.
Kia’s global flagship SUV, the Sorento, is getting closer to its India debut. The latest teaser on Kia’s website (https://www.kia.com/in/our-vehicles/sorento/teaser.html) carries the message “The Kia Sorento – Global Icon. India Bound.”, along with “Coming Soon”, confirming the SUV’s imminent arrival.
More importantly, the teaser page now displays both “Show Interest” and “Pre Book Now” options. With Kia itself now displaying the pre-booking option, the Sorento’s India rollout has clearly entered its next phase.
Kia Sorento: A New Flagship SUV for India
The Sorento is one of Kia’s established global nameplates and sits above models such as the Seltos in the brand’s international SUV hierarchy.
For India, the Sorento is expected to become Kia’s flagship ICE/hybrid SUV, complementing the Carnival premium MPV and the EV9 electric flagship.
The three-row SUV measures a little over 4.8 metres in international markets and has a wheelbase of around 2,815mm, giving it substantially greater road presence than the Seltos.
Its arrival will also take Kia into a part of the Indian SUV market currently occupied by models such as the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
Hybrid Powertrain Could Be the Big Story
One of the most interesting aspects of the India-spec Sorento could be its powertrain.
Previous dealer-source reports suggested that Kia could introduce the Sorento with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong-hybrid powertrain. The international version of this powertrain develops around 238hp and 380Nm and is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
However, Kia has not yet officially confirmed the engine, output, drivetrain or India-spec technical specifications, so these details should still be treated as expected rather than final.
Globally, the Sorento is available with multiple petrol, turbo-petrol and electrified powertrains depending on the market.
If Kia does introduce the strong-hybrid Sorento here, it would give the company an important entry into India’s growing premium hybrid segment.
Premium Three-Row Cabin Expected
The Sorento’s international positioning suggests that Kia will load the India-spec SUV with technology.
Depending on the final specification, equipment could include:
The global model’s dual-screen cockpit and extensive driver-assistance package should also help distinguish the Sorento from Kia’s mass-market Indian offerings.
Sorento Had Already Been Spotted Testing in India
The India launch has been building for some time. Sorento test vehicles were spotted on Indian roads in late 2025, providing one of the earliest concrete indications that Kia was evaluating the SUV for this market.
Kia Sorento India Launch: What Happens Next?
Kia has yet to announce the Sorento’s official launch date, variants or prices.
Recent reports point towards an India introduction in the coming months, with the premium SUV expected to arrive during the second half of 2026.
The teaser itself is careful not to reveal the SUV completely. It shows the vehicle beneath a dark cover, with only portions of the distinctive vertical lighting signature illuminated.
That suggests Kia could follow up with additional teasers revealing the exterior, interior, powertrain and specifications before the final price announcement.
Where Could Kia Position the Sorento?
Pricing will be particularly important.
Earlier estimates had placed the Sorento at around ₹30 lakh–₹35 lakh, although its eventual positioning will depend heavily on localisation, powertrain and equipment levels.
A well-localised Sorento Hybrid could give Kia an interesting proposition between mainstream three-row SUVs and considerably more expensive premium offerings.
Rather than trying to beat the Fortuner purely on ruggedness, Kia could differentiate the Sorento through hybrid efficiency, cabin technology, comfort and features.
The Sorento could be one of Kia India’s most important premium launches in recent years.
More significantly, its arrival could signal Kia’s intention to expand beyond its current high-volume SUV and MPV portfolio into the ₹30 lakh-plus premium SUV market.
The biggest question is now the powertrain. A competitively priced strong-hybrid Sorento would give Kia a distinctive proposition at a time when Indian buyers are increasingly looking at electrified alternatives without moving completely to battery-electric vehicles.
With the teaser campaign live and official pre-booking option now visible, the countdown to the Kia Sorento’s India debut has effectively begun.
