Heavy rains prompt school and college holidays across Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kasaragod and select areas of Kannur, Idukki and Wayanad on August 4.
Thiruvananthapuram: Owing to adverse weather conditions, district collectors have declared a holiday for educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kasaragod districts on Tuesday (August 4, 2026). In addition, holidays have been announced for educational institutions operating as relief camps in Idukki, Wayanad and three taluks of Kannur district.
Pathanamthitta
The District Collector announced the holiday due to heavy rainfall and the operation of relief camps in various school buildings across the district.
Malappuram
In view of relentless heavy rainfall, District Collector Dr Vinay Goyal declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The order applies to madrasas, tuition centres and anganwadis as well. However, pre-scheduled university and Kerala PSC examinations will proceed without any change.
Kozhikode
Given the persistent heavy downpours, waterlogging and continuous rain forecasts, particularly in the hilly regions, the Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Tuesday. This includes schools, madrasas, tuition centres, professional colleges and anganwadis. The order does not apply to institutions conducting online classes.
Alappuzha
A holiday has been announced for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres. The decision follows widespread waterlogging and the functioning of relief camps in multiple school premises.
Kottayam
The District Collector announced holiday for all educational institutions in the district owing to heavy rains.
Thrissur
A holiday has been announced for all educational institutions across the district by authorities.
Kasaragod
Taking into consideration the adverse weather condition owing to heavy rains, the District Collector announced holiday for all educational institutions in the district on August 4.
Palakkad
The District Collector announced holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres in the district.
Ernakulam
The authorities have declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Ernakulam district on August 4 due to heavy rains.
Kannur
In Kannur, the holiday applies to educational institutions in Payyannur, Taliparamba and Iritty taluks. Tuition centres and madrasas in these taluks will also remain closed, though professional colleges hosting relief camps are exempted from this holiday order. Pre-scheduled university and public examinations, as well as interviews, will take place as scheduled.
Idukki
The District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions operating as relief camps until the camps cease functioning. School heads have been instructed to arrange online classes or make alternative provisions to compensate for the lost instructional hours.
Wayanad
The District Collector confirmed that educational institutions currently serving as relief camps across the district will remain closed on Tuesday.
