Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew Chandra Kumar Bose has resigned from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), citing personal reasons. His resignation marks another political shift for Bose, who had joined the Mamata Banerjee-led party ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections after quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Bose had joined the TMC after describing his decision to join the BJP as a “mistake”. While announcing his resignation, he said he was stepping down from the party due to personal reasons. The TMC has not yet issued a statement on his resignation.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the All India Trinamool Congress with immediate effect, due to personal reasons,” read his letter.
Chandra Kumar Bose, a former BJP leader and a member of Netaji’s family, had joined the TMC before the 2026 Bengal Assembly polls, calling for a more inclusive political approach.
Chandra Kumar Bose had resigned from the BJP in 2023, alleging that the party had failed to fulfil its promise of promoting Netaji’s inclusive nationalist ideology.
Bose, who joined the BJP in 2016, contested the 2016 West Bengal Assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha elections on the party’s ticket.
He was appointed the West Bengal BJP vice-president in 2016 but was dropped from the post during the party’s 2020 organisational reshuffle.
WHO IS CHANDRA KUMAR BOSE?
Chandra Kumar Bose hails from one of India’s most prominent political families. He is the son of Amiya Nath Bose, a former MP and noted lawyer, and the grandson of Sarat Chandra Bose, a senior Congress leader, barrister and elder brother of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
He is, therefore, Netaji’s grandnephew.
Before entering politics, Bose built a career in corporate management and entrepreneurship.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta and a graduate in Economics from Hendon College, London, he worked with Tata Steel for 18 years, rising to the position of Area Sales Manager.
In 2004, he founded Bose Information Technology Pvt Ltd, a company specialising in HR consultancy and skill development.
Bose has also been actively involved in preserving Netaji’s legacy.
As the spokesperson for the Open Platform for Netaji, he spearheaded campaigns seeking the declassification of files related to the freedom fighter and advocated greater public access to historical records.
