With his family among the massive crowd at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Chad Gable challenged Penta for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.
As recapped by Roy Nemer in his live coverage of the event, Gable defeated the champion, winning his first singles championship in the company (not counting his run as WWE Speed Champion while under the mask as El Grande Americano).
After the match, Gable cut a promo talking about what the moment meant to him and his family, who joined the new champion in the ring.
