Abaan Ahmed, the youngest son of slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi after the speeding car he was travelling in crashed into a divider. His friend, identified as Sonu, also died in the accident.
According to reports, the accident occurred while Abaan was travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to meet his jailed brother. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving both occupants dead at the scene. Police have initiated an investigation into the accident, with preliminary reports suggesting that overspeeding may have caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Abaan was among the youngest members of Atiq Ahmed’s family and had come under the spotlight following the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal in 2023. Along with his elder brother Mohammad Ahzam, he was taken into police custody after the killing and lodged in a juvenile home. At the time, their mother, Shaista Parveen, had moved court alleging that the police had not disclosed the whereabouts of her sons before they were shifted to the child reform home.
The latest tragedy adds another chapter to the dramatic decline of the once-powerful Atiq Ahmed family, whose members have either been killed, imprisoned, or remain absconding.
Atiq Ahmed, who faced over 100 criminal cases ranging from murder and kidnapping to extortion, was shot dead along with his younger brother Ashraf Ahmed in Prayagraj in April 2023 while police were escorting the two for a medical examination. The assailants surrendered immediately after carrying out the high-profile shooting.
Earlier that month, Atiq’s third son, Asad Ahmed, was killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force in Jhansi. Asad was wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case and carried a reward of ₹5 lakh.
The remaining members of the family continue to face legal scrutiny. Atiq’s elder sons, Mohammad Umar and Mohammad Ali, are lodged in jail in separate criminal cases. At the same time, his wife Shaista Parveen remains absconding in connection with the Umesh Pal murder conspiracy. Several other relatives have also faced criminal proceedings over allegations of sheltering accused persons or participating in the family’s alleged criminal network.
With Abaan’s death, another member of the controversial family has met a tragic end, underscoring the collapse of an empire that once wielded significant influence in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
