Vibrant purple flashes of lightning can look hanging from above the clouds. Astronaut Don Pettit has shared a view of the purple lightning flashing by clouds from the Worldwide House Station.
In a publish on X, Pettit wrote, “Nadir views from ISS of vibrant purple lightning flashing by clouds.”
He mentioned these thunderheads can attain heights of as much as 50,000 toes, larger than most planes fly, making them finest observable from orbit.

Pettit mentioned he used a Nikon Z9 digicam with a shutter pace of 1/1200th and recorded at 120 frames per second to optimise the element of the lightning.
The picture presents a view of vibrant purple lightning flashing by towering clouds from an orbital perspective, highlighting the element Pettit was in a position to seize from the ISS.
