Guwahati:
Two individuals have been arrested and two elephant tusks seized from their possession in Assam’s Tamulpur district, a police assertion stated on Saturday.
The operation was carried out by the state police’s Particular Process Pressure (STF) on Friday evening.
The arrests have been produced from Bangalipara in Tamulpur, and two elephant ivory tusks, weighing 2.09 kg and 1.97 kg, respectively, have been seized from them.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the apprehended individuals have been allegedly making an attempt to promote the ivory tusks for about Rs 6 lakh, at a negotiated charge of round Rs 1.5 lakh per kg, the assertion stated.
The STF handed over the arrested individuals and seized gadgets to the Forest Division after lodging an FIR for crucial authorized motion and additional investigation to unearth the broader inter-state and pan-India nexus concerned within the trafficking of wildlife, wildlife components and merchandise, it added.
