Apple boosts trade-in values for iPhone ahead of iPhone 18 Pro launch

Apple has quietly increased trade-in values across much of its device lineup, giving customers more credit for older iPhones, Macs, iPads and Apple Watches weeks before the iPhone 18 Pro is set to launch.

The updated estimates, available through Apple’s US trade-in programme, raise the value of most eligible devices.

Some devices see increases of almost 30% compared to the previous pricing introduced in May. The timing is notable as Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro lineup next month.

How much is your phone worth?

The biggest improvements are reserved for recent iPhones. The iPhone 16 Pro Max can now fetch up to $720, up from $695. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro jumps from $560 to $630. Other models across the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 families have also received smaller increases.

Apple’s Mac lineup has seen some of the most generous adjustments. The MacBook Pro now offers up to $855 in trade-in credit, up from $690. Moreover, the MacBook Air rises from $520 to $580. The Mac mini receives one of the largest percentage increases, climbing from $375 to $480. The Mac Studio now commands up to $1,305, compared to $1,045 previously.

iPads haven’t been left out either. Maximum trade-in values have increased across every current model. For example, the iPad Pro now is worth up to $720. Additionally, the iPad AiriPad mini and standard iPad also receive modest bumps.

Apple has also increased trade-in estimates for several Apple Watch models, including the Series 10Series 9Series 8 and Series 7. However, values remain unchanged for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the original Ultra and both generations of the Apple Watch SE.

The update extends beyond Apple’s own hardware. The company has added several newer Android phones to its trade-in programme for the first time. These include the Google Pixel 9Pixel 9 ProPixel 9 Pro XLOnePlus 13OnePlus 13R and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Existing Android trade-in values are more mixed. Some models increase slightly while others have been reduced.

As always, the figures published by Apple are estimates rather than guaranteed payouts. The final value depends on factors including the device’s condition, configuration and eligibility. Still, for anyone planning to upgrade to the next generation of Apple hardware, the revised trade-in prices could help offset the cost of a new device – which is expected to be high.
