In terms of its exterior profile and features, the hybrid version of the new Seltos is largely the same as the standard variants
Kia is readying a hybrid powertrain for the new Seltos, which is expected to be launched in Europe and United States later this year. Seltos hybrid will also be available in India, most likely in 2027. Ahead of that, the hybrid variant has been spied undergoing high-altitude testing in the European Alps.
Seltos hybrid – Key features
As seen in the spy shots, Seltos hybrid is largely the same as the pure ICE-based variants. New Seltos is currently available in select European markets such as Spain and Germany with a 1.6-litre T-GDI engine. Other markets in Europe such as the UK will be getting only the hybrid version of Seltos, which will be introduced later this year.
Seltos hybrid is expected to have only a few minor variations to its design in comparison to the petrol-powered variant. The test mule can be seen with minimal camouflage at the front and rear. Only major difference is that the hybrid variant is using a new design for the alloy wheels. Apart from that, most of the features are the same as the standard variants.
Seltos hybrid powertrain
Kia has already shared the powertrain details for Euro-spec Seltos hybrid. This variant will be using an advanced 1.6-litre GDI Hybrid (HEV) engine. It will be paired with a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Kia has designed this hybrid powertrain keeping in mind the requirements for everyday usability. Seltos hybrid is also engineered to enhance fuel efficiency.
Buyers will have the option to choose from 2WD and e-AWD versions of Seltos hybrid. For economical applications, the 2WD variant would be most suitable. Enthusiasts looking for an exhilarating experience can go with the e-AWD variant. Seltos hybrid will be Kia’s first car to be equipped with an e-AWD system. While the 2WD variant produces 154 PS, the output is higher at 178 PS with the e-AWD variant.
Seltos hybrid e-AWD variant will offer improved handling and enhanced traction. The e-AWD setup is designed to ensure optimal torque distribution across all four wheels. Users can handle higher speeds with more confidence with the e-AWD variant. In India, Seltos hybrid is expected to use the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Existing powertrain options will continue to be available after the introduction of the hybrid variant of Seltos. New Creta is also expected to get a hybrid powertrain.
Interior, equipment
Seltos hybrid will have largely the same set of features, as available with the standard variants. However, there will be multiple exclusive additions such as regenerative braking and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). These features are usually seen with pure electric vehicles. Seltos hybrid will be Kia’s first hybrid car to feature Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0.
This system improves safety by automatically maintaining a safe distance from the vehicles moving ahead. Seltos hybrid will also have the Stay Mode, which can be used when the vehicle is stationary. It focuses on passenger comfort, all while reducing power usage. Another useful feature is a front-mounted speaker that generates the sound of a moving vehicle.
This speaker will likely auto activate when the vehicle is moving in pure EV mode. Seltos hybrid has Type-C charging ports, sporty seats and physical buttons for the climate control. Also available are features like cruise control, a 30-inch Trinity display and a robust ADAS suite. Interestingly, in the Chinese market, New Seltos made its debut recently with a different dashboard setup.
