NEW DELHI: The Election Fee on Monday introduced bypolls for 5 Meeting constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat, with polling scheduled for October 6 and counting of votes on October 9.The Meeting constituencies going to polls are Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, Dharapuram and Madurantakam in Tamil Nadu, and Thattanchavady in Puducherry. The Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam may even see a bypoll.
Nandigram amongst key contests
The Nandigram Meeting seat was vacated by West Bengal CM and BJP chief Suvendu Adhikari, who had gained the constituency within the 2026 Meeting election. He retained the Bhabanipur seat, from the place he defeated Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.The Rejinagar seat fell vacant after its MLA Humayun Kabir resigned from the constituency. In Assam, the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat was vacated after Pradyut Bordoloi resigned earlier than the Meeting election and subsequently joined the BJP, based on studies.

EVMs, VVPATs for use
The EC mentioned EVMs and VVPATs might be used in any respect polling stations for the bypolls. It mentioned ample numbers of machines have been made out there and mandatory measures have been taken to make sure clean conduct of polling.The ECI assertion reads, “The Mannequin Code of Conduct shall come into pressure with fast impact within the district(s) wherein the entire or any a part of the Meeting constituency going for election is included, topic to provision of the instruction vide Fee’s letter No. dated 2nd January, 2024.”
