PM Modi posted a new Instagram reel ahead of National Handloom Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday posted a new Instagram reel appealing to young Indians to celebrate National Handloom Day by creating “Get Ready With Me” (GRWM) videos featuring handloom outfits, saying the trend can help showcase India’s rich weaving tradition and support artisan families.

In a new Instagram Reel shared ahead of National Handloom Day on August 7, Modi recalled the historical significance of the day, noting that August 7, 1905, marked the beginning of the Swadeshi Movement, when people across the country united against British rule.

“Just last week, many of you celebrated Friendship Day. Today, I urge you to celebrate National Handloom Day on August 7 with the same enthusiasm and spirit,” he said.

Highlighting the contribution of India’s weaving community, the Prime Minister said National Handloom Day is an opportunity to recognise and support families who create handwoven fabrics through traditional craftsmanship.

“National Handloom Day is about recognising and supporting our weaver families, who create beautiful fabrics with their own hands. Just look at the incredible variety of handloom products our country has to offer,” he said.

PM Suggests ‘GRWM’ Trend To Promote Handloom

Referring to the popular social media trend, Modi encouraged people to wear handloom garments and share them online.

“I have a small request. Why not create a ‘Get Ready With Me’ (GRWM) video featuring a handloom outfit and share it with the world? Inspire others to embrace handloom and support our artisans,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the initiative could contribute to the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat by strengthening the livelihoods of weaving families across the country.

“Our goal is to build an Aatmanirbhar Bharat by empowering even the smallest and poorest weaving families economically. Let us all buy at least one handloom product, make a video about it, and share it widely so that the talent and craftsmanship of our weaver brothers and sisters reach people across India and the world,” he added.
