Tamil Nadu has found a new chief minister in the form of Thalapathy Vijay, and he is doing everything in his power to be registered as a public friendly chief minister.
The way in which Vijay is accessible to the public, and is also looking after the lower level administrative duties is something very refreshing.
But as is the case with any other politician, there will be the constant scrutiny on Vijay and the effort to defend him in the public eye. A similar narrative has started already, and this is regarding his convoy.
One of the main criticisms faced by chief ministers in recent times has been the size of their convoys. Whenever a chief minister travels with a dozen or more vehicles, disrupting public traffic, people react harshly.
Now a similar approach has been taken on social media against the convoy that is being used by Vijay. There are multiple videos since yesterday, where people have started to criticise the number of vehicles that are being used for Vijay’s security.
And the fundamental level, the CM obviously needs a lot of security arrangements based on the protocol. But visually speaking, the volume of the vehicles will decide the public impression of the same. Too many vehicles will throw “waste of public money” vibe and that’s for sure.
So now the ball is in the court of Vijay and he will have to decide on whether to continue this mechanism or cut down a bit and act accordingly. Considering that he has been very reactive and responsive to the comments on him, he will surely be aware of what is to be done.
