Google is going to be shutting down the Google Assistant service, now that Gemini is taking over. The Google Assistant shutdown will commence on September 4, but it “may take a few weeks” to reach everyone who’s still using it.
This shutdown will take effect on Android and Wear OS, but also on headphones (since they were using the phone’s Google Assistant anyway) and vehicles running Android Auto (since, again, it was basically the Google Assistant on the phone that was being used).

On cars with Google built-in (aka running Android Automotive), the Google Assistant will continue to function even after September 4. Google Assistant also seems to be safe, for now at least, on Google TV and Google Home speakers and smart displays.
Google says it’s committed to “providing a smooth transition” and it’s confident that “Gemini will offer you an even more capable and helpful assistant experience”.
