The CBI has arrested a Deputy Controller of Accounts, posted with the Union Ministry of Data and Broadcasting, in a Rs 10 lakh bribery case, a spokesperson from the central company stated on Wednesday.

The spokesperson stated that the CBI registered a case on August 18 towards Sandeep, an Indian Civil Accounts Service officer of the 2020 batch, primarily based on a criticism that he had demanded Rs 15 lakh to clear a file swiftly.

“The accused, posted as Deputy Controller of Accounts and Inside Monetary Adviser within the ministry, allegedly sought the bribe for clearing the renewal file of a non-public firm’s contract that was pending earlier than him,” the spokesperson stated.

Following negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to simply accept Rs 10 lakh from the complainant, the spokesperson stated.

After receiving the criticism, the CBI gathered proof throughout its preliminary enquiry and later caught him red-handed. “The CBI laid a lure on Tuesday and caught Sandeep when he was accepting the bribe quantity via his spouse,” the spokesperson stated. The spokesperson added that after arresting Sandeep, CBI officers searched his workplace and seized some information.
