The demise toll after a sturdy earthquake that rocked western Colombia on Monday (August 10, 2026) has risen to at least 20, authorities stated.
Within the city of Pereira, 18 individuals have been killed and others have been trapped in buildings that collapsed, Mayor Mauricio Salazar informed Caracol Radio.
In Manizales, two individuals have been killed, Mayor Jorge Eduardo Rojas stated in an interview with Blu Radio.

The epicentre was in San Jose Del Palmar, a municipality within the Choco area about 250 miles (400 kilometres) west of Colombia’s capital, Bogota, the U.S. Geological Survey and Colombia’s counterpart reported. The USGS stated it struck at a depth of 66 miles (107 kilometres).
Choco Gov. Nubia Cordoba stated on social media that within the regional capital, “there are accidents and severe injury to buildings,” with out offering additional particulars.
The temblor follows two back-to-back 7.2 and seven.5 magnitude earthquakes in Venezuela in late June. These earthquakes destroyed lots of of buildings and killed greater than 5,000 individuals.
