After Central Authorities’s notification issued on Saturday (September 5) notifying Chief Justices for eight high courts, all 25 excessive courts within the nation will now perform with everlasting Chief Justices.
Beforehand, as of July, seven out of 25 High Courts within the nation had been functioning and not using a everlasting Chief Justice with Appearing Chief Justices heading these courts.
On Saturday the Centre notified the appointments of:
1. Delhi Excessive Courtroom decide Justice V. Kameswar Rao as Chief Justice of Patna Excessive Courtroom
2. Bombay Excessive Courtroom decide Justice Ravindra V Ghuge as Chief Justice of Calcutta Excessive Courtroom
3. Chhattisgarh Excessive Courtroom decide Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal as Chief Justice of Rajasthan Excessive COurt
4. Allahabad Excessive Courtroom decide Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi as Chief Justice of Bombay Excessive Courtroom
5. Punjab & Haryana Excessive Courtroom decide Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra as Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana Excessive Courtroom
6. Orissa Excessive Courtroom decide Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra as Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh Excessive Courtroom
7. Gujarat Excessive Courtroom decide Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh Excessive Courtroom
8. Rajasthan Excessive Courtroom decide Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati as Chief Justice of J&Okay And Ladakh Excessive Courtroom
4 of seven vacancies arose after Justice Sheel Nagu (Punjab and Haryana HC), Justice Chandrashekhar (Bombay HC), Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva (Madhya Pradesh HC), and Justice Arun Palli (Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh HC) had been elevated because the judges of the Supreme Courtroom in June 2026.
Subsequently, Appearing Chief Justices Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Ravindra Vithalrao Ghughe, Vivek Rusia and Sanjeev Kumar had been appointed to the respective Excessive Courts.
On the Rajasthan Excessive Courtroom, Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma has served as Appearing Chief Justice since September 2025, following the retirement of former Chief Justice Kalpathi Rajendra Shriram.
Equally, Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty was appointed Appearing Chief Justice of the Calcutta Excessive Courtroom after Justice Sujoy Paul’s retirement on June 20, 2026, and Justice Sudhir Singh was appointed Appearing Chief Justice of the Patna Excessive Courtroom following the retirement of Justice Meenakshi M. Rai on July 11, 2026.
Additionally, Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal was performing the duties of the Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court pursuant to the retirement of outgoing Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha on September 4. Justice Agrawal has now been appointed as Chief Justice of Rajasthan Excessive Courtroom.
