CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, will conduct a free vascular health screening on 6 August to mark National Vascular Day, encouraging people to identify vascular diseases early before they lead to serious complications. The one-day initiative will provide free Doppler tests along with consultations by vascular surgeon Dr. P. C. Gupta, Clinical Director and Head of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, Vascular IR and Podiatric Surgery.
The hospital said vascular diseases often progress without noticeable symptoms in the early stages, making timely screening critical. Symptoms such as leg pain while walking, swelling, numbness in the feet and non-healing wounds are frequently overlooked, delaying treatment until blood circulation becomes severely affected.
Focus On Early Detection
According to the Vascular Society of India, vascular diseases remain under-recognised despite contributing significantly to the country’s disease burden. Early diagnosis and timely intervention can help preserve mobility, prevent disability and reduce the risk of limb-threatening complications.
Dr. Gupta said leg pain while walking is often mistaken as a normal sign of ageing, although it may indicate blocked arteries. He added that persistent swelling, cold feet and wounds that fail to heal should not be ignored, as early medical evaluation can prevent severe complications through timely treatment.
He further noted that individuals with diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, smokers and adults above the age of 50 are at a greater risk of developing vascular disease. The screening initiative, he said, is intended to encourage people in these high-risk groups to undergo a simple vascular assessment before the condition progresses.
Hospital Chief Operating Officer Abhinav Joshi said preventive screening plays a vital role in reducing the burden of vascular disease. He said the initiative reflects the hospital’s commitment to improving awareness and making specialised vascular care more accessible through early diagnosis and intervention. The free screening will include a Doppler test, a non-invasive procedure that assesses blood flow through arteries and veins to detect narrowing or blockages at an early stage.
CARE Hospitals has advised people experiencing leg pain or cramps while walking, persistent swelling, varicose veins, coldness or numbness in the feet, skin colour changes in the legs, or foot ulcers that do not heal to seek medical evaluation. The free vascular health check will be held at the CARE Hospitals Outpatient Centre on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Prior appointments are mandatory and registrations will be accepted subject to availability.
