ACB arrests two police officers for accepting Rs 15,000 bribe

Srinagar, Sep 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday trapped and arrested two law enforcement officials for demanding and accepting bribe in Srinagar.

In an announcement, the ACB stated that it obtained a written criticism alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, Investigating officer (IO) of Case FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar via his confederate particularly Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector P/S Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, had demanded unlawful gratification from the complainant for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the events.

It stated that on receipt of the criticism, the ACB performed verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for unlawful gratification. 

Accordingly, Case FIR No. 12/2026 beneath Part 7, Part 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 & Part 61(2)BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.

Through the course of investigation a lure crew was constituted. The crew caught the accused public servant particularly Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub Inspector Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar red-handed whereas demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.15000 on behalf of IO of the case PSI Karanjeet Singh from the complainant.

The bribe quantity was recovered from the possession of the accused within the presence of impartial witnesses and he was taken into custody in accordance with legislation, and his Co-conspirator PSI Karanjeet Singh was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.
