A study reveals that doing this one weekly workout can melt your belly fat!

Are you someone who is constantly worried about belly fat, which doesn’t seem to go away despite all your efforts, then you must read on, as a recent study claims to change the way experts looked at the concept of weight loss for years, especially stubborn belly fat loss. Read on to know more about it…As per a report published in ScienceDaily, a recent study has changed the fitness game for many people, the study cities a Researcher done by the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) that has recently discovered that doing brisk interval walking a single time per week can slash body fat and boost fitness in adults dealing with central obesity. Surprisingly, the health perks matched those of people who sweated it out three times a week. Published in Nature Communications, this study proves that saving time doesn’t have to mean sacrificing results. Why does belly fat matter?Obesity is a major public health issue, but fat gathering specifically around the abdomen is the real trouble maker. It spikes the risk of heart disease, metabolic disorders, and early death. While exercise is the gold standard for tackling obesity, sticking to a regular routine is tough—especially for people who are already carrying extra weight. Interval training, which flips back and forth between high-effort bursts and easier recovery periods, is known for burning fat efficiently.Yet, traditional guidelines usually demand three days of interval workouts a week. For folks juggling demanding jobs, kids, and packed schedules, hitting the gym often feels completely out of reach.Weekend Warrior: Idea to the testPast studies hinted that cramming most weekly exercise into a day or two—the classic “weekend warrior” habit—still offers health perks. Still, nobody knew if a single weekly session of interval training could actually hold its own against a standard three-day schedule. To find out, HKUMed researchers launched a randomized trial running from September 2021 to September 2024. They tracked 315 adults in Hong Kong who were overweight and struggled with central obesity. The participants were split into three groups: one worked out once a week, another three times a week, and a control group just attended health classes every couple of weeks. Crucially, both exercise groups completed the exact same total amount of weekly movement: 75 minutes of interval training. One group did it all in one go, while the other chopped it up into three smaller chunks.Surprising parallels in fat lossAfter 16 weeks, the results shocked the skeptics. Both exercise groups showed nearly identical improvements. Whether they worked out once or three times a week, the participants shrank their waistlines, dropped overall body fat mass, lowered their body fat percentages, and boosted their heart and lung fitness compared to the control group. Professor Parco Siu Ming-fai, head of the division of kinesiology at HKUMed, noted that while working out three times a week is still a great standard prescription, a single weekly session is a solid, practical alternative for anyone whose life gets too busy to maintain a high-frequency routine.Opening doors for busy livesTime constraints are the number one reason people give up on exercise. Life gets in the way with work, school, and family duties. This study shows that people don’t necessarily need to live at the gym to see real health transformations. By proving that a once-weekly interval session works wonders; researchers hope to give people a manageable way to fight central obesity without burning out.
