Along with the stunning image, the astronaut said it reminded her that there was still “plenty worth caring for—and fighting for.”
The image shows a pink-and-red lake in the Kyzylkum region of Kazakhstan, where the water gets its distinctive colour from minerals and tiny organisms living in its salty waters. Seen from nearly 400 kilometres above Earth, the lake appears to form the shape of a heart.
‘Earth is sending me a message’
Sharing the photograph on X, Adenot said spotting heart shapes in nature always makes her smile. The ISS astronaut wrote that while her mind knows the shape is simply pareidolia, the tendency to see familiar patterns in random objects, her heart likes to believe that Earth is sending her a message.

Reflecting on the present day, she added that summers may not feel as carefree as they once did, but the heart-shaped lake serves as a gentle reminder that there is still plenty worth “caring for—and fighting for.”

The European Space Agency also featured the photograph on Instagram, describing it as a sight that “speaks straight to the heart.”
