NALGONDA: Six passengers, all from Andhra Pradesh, had been killed and 14 others injured when a non-public journey bus rammed into the rear of a container truck carrying heavy iron rods at Dorakunta in Kodad mandal of Suryapet district early on Wednesday.
The deceased had been recognized as Yasarapu Chinni, 32, of Telaprolu in NTR district; Bollipongu Meri Joshna, 29, Suravarapu Shakeena, Konduru Bavanvarsha and Pidikiti Lakshmi, all from Vijayawada; and Chenna Keshavula Nagendra Babu, 21, of Padamati Lanka in Vijayawada.
The injured had been shifted to the Authorities Hospital in Kodad. Three severely injured passengers had been later shifted to a hospital in Vijayawada.
The accident occurred round 5.10 am when the personal bus, operated by Recent Bus Travels, was travelling from Hyderabad to Eluru with 42 passengers. It rammed the rear of a container truck that had hit the street divider and stopped on the freeway. The truck was carrying iron poles used for industrial building and was headed in direction of Vijayawada.
The affect prompted the iron poles to pierce the uncommon proper aspect of the bus, hitting passengers seated behind the motive force. A lot of the deceased had been girls. The bus driver, Ok. Mallikarjun, reportedly fled the scene after the accident.
Kodad Rural police reached the spot after receiving data and took greater than an hour to rescue the injured from the bus. The accident led to a visitors jam stretching over two kilometres on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada aspect of NH-65. Police later cleared the street by eradicating the bus and container truck.
P. Naveen, an eyewitness travelling on the bus, stated the passengers had stopped at a roadside lodge close to Suryapet for dinner and the accident occurred about 40 km after they resumed their journey. Most passengers had been asleep when the collision occurred, he stated.
Superintendent of Police Ok. Narsimha, who inspected the accident website, stated preliminary investigation recommended overspeeding and drowsy driving by the bus driver as the explanations for the accident. A case was registered and an investigation is beneath means.
