The story thus far: Following the announcement by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday (August 24, 2026) that his Authorities had determined to drop the ₹27,400 crore greenfield airport undertaking in Parandur in Kancheepuram district, public curiosity has turned to the destiny of lands acquired for the undertaking. On Tuesday, Industries Minister S. Keerthana instructed the Meeting that various tasks could be carried out utilizing the acquired lands.
Ever since Parandur, round 70 km from Chennai, was cleared by the Union Authorities in August 2022 for the proposed airport, sections of native villagers and farmers there have been in protest mode. Aside from possible displacement, they opposed the undertaking citing potential adversarial results on the setting, on condition that the location is replete with waterbodies.
