Three newborns died after a hearth broke out within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the District Ladies’s Hospital in Maharashtra’s Amravati metropolis early Monday, officers mentioned.
As many as 36 different infants had been rescued and shifted to different hospitals following the blaze, which erupted within the NICU housing untimely and critically sick infants.
Amravati Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola mentioned a ventilator within the outborn infants’ part of the NICU caught hearth round 3.15 am. Of the 9 infants admitted in that part, three died whereas the remaining six had been rescued.
The NICU has three sections for inborn infants, outborn infants and step-down care. A complete of 39 infants had been admitted throughout the three sections when the hearth broke out.
Hospital workers rushed to the spot and evacuated the opposite infants safely. Six infants had been later admitted to a super-speciality hospital, whereas some others had been shifted to the Divisional Referral Companies Hospital. 4 infants had been being handled there, with one reported to be in vital situation.
The our bodies of the three newborns had been despatched for postmortem.
