Guwahati, Aug 22: Assam cab operators on Saturday suspended their blockade in opposition to Meghalaya-registered automobiles following assurances on security after a ministerial-level assembly between the 2 states.
The choice was introduced following a gathering between Assam Border Safety Minister Atul Bora and Meghalaya Deputy CM S Dhar.
“We’ve got determined to droop the blockade in the intervening time. The Meghalaya authorities has fashioned a Particular Investigation Group to investigate into the violence of August 19. We’ll look forward to its findings,” a cab operator stated on the blockade web site at Jorabat, after a gathering with Bora.
“Our minister has stated that Meghalaya will compensate for the injury precipitated to our drivers and automobiles,” he added.
Bora visited the protesters after assembly Dhar.
A delegation of the protesters will meet representatives of the Assam authorities on Sunday to take ahead their calls for.
Violence had erupted throughout a motorbike rally organised by the Khasi College students’ Union in Shillong on August 19. A minimum of 31 automobiles, together with these from Assam, had been broken, and 16 individuals had been injured, based on the police.
Following the incident, industrial car operators in Assam blocked visitors to Meghalaya at Jorabat and Khanapara, the primary entry factors to the neighbouring state, from Thursday.
The blockade was prolonged to different entry factors to Meghalaya from Guwahati on Saturday. (PTI)
