Union Residence Minister Amit Shah on Thursday introduced key southern leaders collectively on the thirty first assembly of the Southern Zonal Council in Tamil Nadu, with Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu amongst these attending.
The assembly was held on the Taj Fisherman’s Cove lodge in Kovalam, Chengalpet district, and hosted by the Tamil Nadu authorities. Chief Ministers and senior representatives from the southern states and Union Territories participated within the assembly, information company ANI reported.

The Southern Zonal Council contains Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, together with the Union Territories of Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
Amit Shah is the Chairman of the council, whereas Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is its Vice-Chairman, the report added.
The place of Vice-Chairman is held by the Chief Ministers of member states on a rotational foundation, in line with the Ministry of Residence Affairs.
What’s the function of Zonal Councils?
The Zonal Councils are advisory our bodies that function a platform for the Centre, states and Union Territories to debate and resolve problems with widespread curiosity, ANI reported.
Over the previous 12 years, since June 2014, 69 conferences of assorted Zonal Councils and their Standing Committees have been held with the participation of state governments, Central ministries and departments, in line with the discharge.
