The biggest difference between Vinicius Jr’s demands and Real Madrid’s proposal is the renewal bonus that the Brazilian wants, according to a report from The Athletic on Tuesday afternoon.
The two parties have been involved in a stalemate for the last year or so, with negotiations and tensions regarding Vinicius Jr’s future increasing to an all-time high this summer.
Vinicius Jr has a contract valid until 2027, and one of his extension demands are a renewal bonus for the player, which would be similar to a signing bonus that Real Madrid pay to a free agent.

There is a big difference between the two, though. Real Madrid have always offered signing bonuses to free agents, but for existing players, it has never been a thing. Not even Cristiano Ronaldo – the greatest player to have ever played for Real Madrid – has ever received such special treatment by the club.
It just does not make sense to give Vinicius Jr something that even the greatest in club’s history never got.
Sure, there are other types of bonuses, but the club specifically never gives bonuses to any of their players.
This is because if they give it to Vinicius Jr, it will have a knock-on effect on the rest of the squad, and every big player would then want the same treatment as one player.
It would disrupt squad harmony as well as the strict rules that Real Madrid have implied on the contracts of these players.
This is what it all comes down to. As good as Vinicius Jr is and has been for the longest time for Real Madrid, no one is above the club. Obviously, Vinicius Jr probably wants the renewal bonus after seeing Real Madrid give a huge amount of signing bonus to Kylian Mbappe and other free agents.
However, it is just not the same thing, and Vinicius Jr would need to understand that. Real Madrid have no intention of changing this rule for one single player, so to me, the entire contract saga comes down to one thing: Is Vinicius Jr going to lower his demands, or at least take the renewal bonus out of the equation? If yes, Real Madrid will happily extend his contract. If not, the club will look to sell him this summer.
The report also says that the key figures at Real Madrid are in favour of selling the player in the summer if a contract extension cannot be finalised, because taking this into the next season will only cause even more panic and problems for not just the fanbase, but also within the club.
