After emailing out discounts to Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra buyers, Samsung’s pre-order period ends in a couple of days. The company’s discount stack is good, but Amazon’s new offer looks like the better promotion if you don’t have a phone to trade in.

Amazon is offering a free $350 gift card with either the Galaxy Z Fold 8 ($1,899) or Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra ($2,099). There’s no trade-in required, no contract and nothing to sign up for. The offer ends on August 6th, the day before the phones ship to pre-order buyers.
Samsung’s own no-trade-in offer is a $200 Samsung credit. That’s $150 less than Amazon, and it can only be spent on Samsung.com. Amazon’s gift card is both sizable and far more useful because of the company’s seemingly endless catalogue of stuff to buy, not just Samsung products. If you don’t have a device to trade in, Amazon is the cleaner, better deal.
But Amazon’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Trade-In Prices Are Much Worse
But, if you have a phone to trade in, or the right phone to swap, then Samsung’s deal is better for you because the Korean company’s pre-order trade-in prices are high right now.
Samsung is currently offering up to $1,200 instant trade-in credit for your used phone, but only the Galaxy S26 Ultra nets that much. Prices for more realistic trade-ins are almost as impressive, though, especially compared to Amazon’s numbers.

Samsung’s trade-in pricing game remains unmatched for Galaxy devices. You are not getting anything close to $1,100 for your Galaxy Z Fold 6 anywhere else, and definitely not $850 for the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The gap narrows with other brands and the numbers shrink if you have a Pixel phone. For example, Samsung will pay $320 for your Pixel 10 Pro XL, which is still the current flagship Google phone, for now.
But if you have a Samsung device, it’s worth checking what it’s worth before deciding where to buy the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Is It Worth Just Waiting For The Galaxy Z Fold 8?
Yes, more than likely. Samsung historically isn’t shy about dropping the price of its tech. Even in the midst of the RAM crisis that has forced prices up, it just means the Korean company is more targeted about its pricing.
For example, there have been three major discounts for the Galaxy S26 Ultra this year, most of which centered around public holidays such as Labor Day. One of the recent deals knocked $500 off the Galaxy S26 Ultra, bringing it down to $999 three months after launch.
Don’t be surprised if we see similar price drops for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, especially around the launch of the iPhone Fold. The “PAYPAL100” code that knocks $100 off either device when bought with PayPal will likely be repeated at some point too. The only argument in favour of buying now is that those trade-in prices may not be repeated any time soon. Samsung’s trade-in pricing fluctuates, but those higher valutions are rarer than the straight money-off discounts.
