The new Galaxy Z8 foldables finally beat Galaxy Note10’s long-standing pre-order record

Many years ago, the Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ set a long-standing pre-order record in South Korea of 1.38 million units. To be fair, this was over a fairly long 11-day pre-order period, but it was still a feat that later Galaxys failed to match.

The new Galaxy Z8 trio has finally surpassed the old master – the new foldable flagships saw 1.44 million pre-orders total, reports Yonhap News. What’s even more impressive is that this was done over a short period – pre-orders ran from Wednesday to Monday.

Let’s rewind the tape and see how past models performed to put this number into context. The Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 set a foldable record of 1.02 million pre-orders, beating the 0.97 million number for their predecessors. The Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 were a low point for the series as pre-orders declined to 0.91 million. Then the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 bounced back with a new foldable record of 1.04 million done in the week spanning July 15-21.

What the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 achieved is an overall record, though, not just for the foldable category.

The Note series was discontinued in 2020, its spot next to the S-series was taken over by the Z foldables. Speaking of, the Galaxy S26 generation set an S-series record of 1.35 million pre-orders earlier this year (this was over 7 days). This could be a turning point in history – it is the first time that the Galaxy foldable flagships have beaten the S-series flagships in terms of pre-orders. For comparison, Galaxy Z7’s 1.04 million pre-orders last year were easily topped by the 1.3 million pre-orders for S25 phones.

The record sales can largely be attributed to the Galaxy Z Fold8, which introduced a new wide foldable form factor to the series – it accounted for a whopping 70% of pre-orders. It was particularly popular with customers in their 30s and younger and with female buyers – these groups accounted for half of Z Fold8 buyers.

The Galaxy Z8 trio is off to a strong start in other countries as well – in India, it saw 271,000 pre-orders in 3 days, while the 2025 Z foldables needed 15 days to reach that number.
