A Congress MLA has sparked an issue in Karnataka after showing to counsel that his constituency be merged with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, alleging that successive state governments have uncared for the area. He later stated his remarks had been misinterpreted.
Talking at an occasion in Molakalmuru, Congress MLA NY Gopalakrishna expressed anguish over what he described because the continued neglect of his constituency.
“Molakalmuru isn’t seen to anybody. Different locations obtain consideration, however this city is all the time ignored. Even its MLAs should not re-elected. It could be higher to merge this city with Andhra Pradesh or with Challakere taluk. It pains me lots,” he stated.

MLA SAYS REMARKS MISINTERPRETED
Hours later, Gopalakrishna issued a clarification on social media, saying his remarks had been taken out of context.
He stated he had sought higher irrigation amenities and a particular growth bundle for Molakalmuru, not its merger with Andhra Pradesh.
“I dropped at the federal government’s consideration that Molakalmuru taluk must also obtain a particular bundle, with better precedence given to irrigation amenities,” Gopalakrishna, who has served as an MLA since 1997, stated.
He additionally referred to as the portrayal of his remarks as a requirement for Molakalmuru’s merger with Andhra Pradesh a “full misinterpretation”.
UPSET OVER CABINET EXCLUSION
The controversy comes per week after Gopalakrishna publicly expressed disappointment over being left out of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s expanded Cupboard.
The seven-term MLA alleged that the Congress management was prioritising youthful politicians whereas overlooking senior leaders.
“Youthful leaders are being given significance, and senior leaders are being humiliated. That is the fact we’re witnessing. We’re damage,” he stated.
Gopalakrishna, who was with the BJP between 2018 and 2023, added that he had not selected his subsequent plan of action and would first seek the advice of the individuals of his constituency.
“We can’t take any determination with out contemplating their views. The excessive command itself has introduced us to this stage,” he stated.
