Air India Express passenger’s gun goes off at Varanasi airport, two injured

Two AAICLAS (AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Providers Firm Restricted) screeners had been injured when a passenger’s pistol by accident went off at Lal Bahadur Shastri Worldwide Airport, Varanasi on Sunday, officers stated.

In response to officers, the passenger, a resident of Azamgarh, and his spouse reached the airport to catch the Mumbai-bound Air India Categorical flight IX-1810. When the AAICLAS screeners inspected the pistol, it immediately went off and injured two AAICLAS screeners. Individuals conscious of the matter stated the male safety personnel was injured in his hand whereas the feminine employees member was injured above her knee.

In an announcement, airport director Puneet Gupta stated, “Right now, on August 16, 2026, at roughly 9.30am, a passenger was to journey to Mumbai on flight IX-1810 along with his spouse. He declared a weapon supposed to be carried on the plane.”

Gupta added, “Through the inspection of the weapon, a spherical was by accident discharged, injuring two AAICLAS screeners. Each had been taken to New Laxmi Trauma Centre for therapy. They’re present process therapy on the hospital.”

He added that native police have been knowledgeable, and an investigation is underway. The situation of each AAICLAS screeners is claimed to be out of hazard.

The passenger had declared his ammunition and was being checked individually within the safety maintain space.
